today started out with a clear plan, we had an outdoor photo shoot planned for coco, but due to the heavy rain it got rescheduled. since we were all dressed anyway we decided to head to my husband's work to pick up some documents, and on our way out my husband stopped to show me some of a funeral ceremony. now i know that sounds crazy, to take your family to see a funeral but its my husbands job, and in all of the four years he's had it, i've never seen it. my husband works at the arlington cemetery where he not only does the funerals of our fallen soldiers and war heroes and others, he is one of the ones who carries the caskets. very humbling. it was beautiful to watch, and the rain and foliage as the backdrop made it that much more intense. i have a whole new appreciation to what he does. after we watched a few minutes we stopped by iwo jimma, and then we walked the arlington cemetery where he explained more of an average day of work, and we even got to see the tomb of the undead soldier. it was so surreal, and i am so lucky to live so close to so much history and so glad to be able to share it with coco. i'm going to be so heartbroken when its time to leave virginia in a year, because it is the only place i've lived since i began my love affair with america a few years ago and i can't imagine living anywhere else!

afterwards we lightened the mood by eating the best sandwich at jimmy johns (stuffed with alfalfa sprouts, i LOVE alfalfa sprouts), my new grumpy old men slipper socks came in the mail, and we had a circus puppet show.
i really wish i had taken more photos, but it was a sporadic visit and my phone was dying so i present our day via instagram.
